Lim Ok-sang is a native of South Korea. His art, using writing, painting, metal, paper and clay, speaks out against injustice and the forces of destruction, as well as illustrating the value of life and the importance of our environment. Ok-sang visits ASLD to discuss his alternative approaches to materiality.

This special event is part of ASLD’s Visiting Artist Series to bring guest artists to Denver and offer master classes to our community. LIM Ok-sang is a native of South Korea. His art, using writing, painting, metal, paper and clay, speaks out against injustice and the forces of destruction, as well as illustrating the value of life and the importance of our environment. Lim’s work is featured in collections at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Korea), the Seoul Museum of Art, Leeum Art Museum, Busan Museum of Art and many more. He is one of the leading artists of the Minjung movement in Korea that has been highly critical of political oppression.

LIM Ok-Sang will also be part of RedLine’s counterArt which runs from October 4–December 15 and host several programs at their gallery. More details can be found at redlineart.org.

WORKSHOP: Painting with Soil: Self-Portrait

Ability: All

LIM Ok-sang has been incorporating soil into his paintings for the past couple of decades. In this workshop, you will learn about his mastery of the manipulated-soil technique to paint on canvas. Participants will work alongside LIM to create a self-portrait. Some experience with painting is recommended.
